Your young reader can participate in both 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten (1000 BBK) and Dolly Parton's Imagination Library!

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten is a fun, simple, and innovative approach to establishing strong early literacy skills. Just read a book, ANY book, to your child, with the goal of reading 1,000 before they begin kindergarten. Numerous studies estimate that as many as one in five children have difficulties learning to read. Formal public education does not typically start until age 5 or 6. This means parents, grandparents, and other caregivers are the primary education providers during the critical early years of childhood. The 1000 Books Before Kindergarten challenge is a small, manageable way to make a life-long impact.

Dolly Parton's Imagination Library is dedicated to inspiring a love of reading by gifting books FREE of charge through the mail each month to children (birth to age 5), through funding shared by Dolly Parton and local community partners. Inspired by her father’s inability to read and write, Dolly started her Imagination Library in 1995 for the children within her home county. Today, her program spans five countries and gifts over 1 million free books each month to children around the world. We are thrilled that Dolly's Imagination Library is now available to children in ALL of West Virginia's 55 counties.
