Library Card Application
Requesting a library card from SCPL is as easy as
1 – 2 – 3!
Per SCPL policy, adults age 18 and up show photo identification (e.g. driver’s license, voter registration) and verify current address to obtain a free SCPL card. Use of the card indicates an accepted responsibility for materials borrowed and fines/charges incurred.
Youth under the age of 18 may obtain a library card with adult permission. The adult must have an SCPL card in good standing and sign for the youth card, accepting responsibility for materials borrowed and fines/charges incurred.
Readers may visit the library to complete the application, or apply online.
An active library card is required to borrow in-library materials and access electronic resources; online materials also require a PIN.
Cardholder information must be verified and/or updated with the library once a year.
1 To apply in person, visit the library for an application and assistance.
2 To apply from a desktop computer, visit the SCPL catalog (opac.scplwv.org), click “Create Account” at the top right of the screen, and complete the form as directed.
To apply from a mobile device, visit the SCPL catalog (opac.scplwv.org), click “Desktop Version” at the bottom of the screen, click “Create Account” at the top right of the next screen, and complete the form as directed.
A confirmation email with a temporary barcode number (only a placeholder and not a workable account number) is sent to the email address provided on the application; forward that email to email@example.com.
A return email will be sent with an SCPL card number and active PIN number (the last 4 digits of the primary phone number provided on the application).
If applying for a youth card, specify in the forwarded email the name of the adult SCPL cardholder accepting responsibility for the account.
3 Visit the library or our website (scplwv.org) for links to the catalog and electronic resources…then read, listen, watch, and enjoy!
